The original Land Rover Defender may have gone about its duties with very little fuss and it certainly didn’t pine for attention, but a lot has changed in the 60-odd years since it was first conceived – not least that you can’t buy one any more.
Well, you can if you visit Arkonik, as the British Defender experts don’t just lovingly restore this workhorse favourite, they give the old Landy a new lease of life with bespoke styling and modern elements that bring it bang up to date.
Its latest creation, the NEO D110, features an OEM hood and classic silhouette, which echo the original vehicle, while the Elite Sports seats and KBX Signature Grille give this D110 a contemporary twist.
“The owner of this Santorini Black 110 has been in love with Defenders since he was a child. Now that the dream has materialised, he is looking forward to sharing it with his sons on camping trips up to the mountains,” the guys at Arkonik told us.
A few technical highlights include a Santorini Black body with Satin Black chequer plate, Zambezi Silver KBX wing top vents and signature grille, twin cat LED headlights, Kahn Defend 1983 18-inch alloys, BFGoodrich T/A KO2 tyres, raptor-coated steering and front differential guard and rear LED work lamp.
It’s pretty special inside, too, with black diamond-stitched leather covering most surfaces, sports seats, USB ports, a black suede headlining, air conditioning and ice white interior ambient lighting giving it a proper modern twist.
Don’t think this new-wave Defender has lost its rustic charm, because the folk at Arkonik ensure their vehicles are loving rebuilt from the ground up, so that means chassis, underpinnings and all. In fact, there’s currently a 16-18 month lead time for an Arkonik Defender, as the company likes to keep production down to just four a month to ensure the highest standards.
Expect to part with around £110,000 for one of their products and you can check out some of their other builds on the site now.
