If the sales of gargantuan SUVs are anything to go by, modern parents have seemingly become so paranoid about the safety of their kiddies that they require enormous, off-road giants to traverse the two miles of sedate B-roads that lead to little Timmy’s nursery.

But the scene is clearly even more desperate in the United States, where Sports Utility Vehicles no longer cut it and instead, a Tactical Urban Vehicle is required to get from A to B.

Rezvani Tank

Step forward the Rezvani Tank – a Californian creation that embodies many of the same characteristics found on the US military vehicle of the same name.

It is powered by an almighty 500hp, 6.4-litre SRT V8, which drives an “on-demand” all-wheel-drive system, while those who presumably live at the summit of a mountain can add an even more hardcore Off-Road Package.

“The Rezvani Tank can also be specified with thermal night vision and a ballistic protection package that includes Kevlar exterior armour”

This throws in a six-inch lift to the suspension and provides even more capable 37 x 12.5-inch off-road tyres, a Dynatrac ProRock axle set with electric locking diffs and Fox 2.50-inch Remote Reservoir Shocks.

However, a rough and tough off-road option is just the tip of the iceberg, as the Rezvani Tank can also be specified with thermal night vision and a ballistic protection package that includes Kevlar exterior armour, bulletproof glass, military-grade run flat tyres and a Kevlar protected fuel tank, floorpan and radiator.

“The cabin is festooned with hand-stitched leather”

It is utter insanity but the pumped-up Tank has a soft side, too. Step inside and the cabin is festooned with hand-stitched leather and suede, a 7.9-inch advanced infotainment screen and a full head-up display to help with navigation and other driving functionality when Oscar Mike (that’s US military jargon for “on the move”, by the way).

Orders are being taken now with prices starting at around £134,000 when you consider the current US dollar exchange rate. First deliveries are expected by the end of this year.

So, if you’re the type of person who pulls up to the school gates in a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, you might just have to step up your game.
